Silent Sky Project#1

Silent Sky Project#1   June 22th 2004, 10.30 – 11.00 am, 20 participants, Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Shopkeepers and their personnel were invited to come up to the roof of the shoppingmall.

Twenty of them came and had a conversation with the Sky for 30 minutes. This happened while their shops were still open. None of them had ever been on the roof. In the mall they always work in artificial light.

During the exhibition ‘PleinPubliek’, organised by Foundation Epicentrum, 5000 postcards were distributed by 60 shopkeepers (see above) to their customers. (sept. 2004)

Some of the experiences of the action that can be found on the backside of the card:

“This you should do everyday, tomorrow again 10.30?”

“I am lying here twenty meters from my workspot and then you feel a little mixed,
I am lying here nicely relaxed and again you don’t know what’s going on there.”

“I think that if Balkenende (the prime minister) in Holland should purchase something,
that it would be compulsary for everyone for half an hour.”

“First you are with your head completely in a workmood;
this to do and that to do. But then you lie here and
gone…silence indeed…it was wonderful.”
