Openingperformance Sidewalks Ferryboat

MEETING

On may 18th the openingritual of the Veerstoepen was performed. The sidewalks are on both sides of the river, they are alike but can never meet. One side is red and the other green, in the same language as the international traffic color direction of the river. The ritual is performed by gedeputeerde Annemiek Traag & gedeputeerde Josan Meijers of the Provincie Gelderland, wethouder Henk Plaizier van de gemeente Beuningen, wethouder Frits Witjes van de gemeente Overbetuwe, poet Tim Pardijs & the audience.

The Ferryboat Sidewalks – Veerstoepen are designed by atelier Quadrat & ontwerpbureau Blom&Moors. The two poems by Tim Pardijs are etched in the concrete floor of the sidewalks:

ik leg op zoek naar jou aan                                                                   steek zo stil over
bij iedere naam                                                                                     dat het water spiegelt
die aan me voorbij trekt                                                                        kijk dan voorzichtig
de ruimte                                                                                              om: je schrijft over
wordt zo groot dat ik                                                                             kant
los                                                                                                         op het draagvlak
van ieder teken                                                                                     ik lees tussen de wolken hoe
naar de overkant drijf                                                                            ik bij je kan komen

The gedeputeerde rang the ship bell, in silence we listened to the distant answer of the bell on the other side of the river.

The wethouder of Beuningen brought in a procession one of the green balls to the other side with the ferry.

The wethouder of Slijk-Ewijk brought his red ball to the other side to Beuningen.
